Chapter 6: The Science of Meditation

ध्यान योग
The uncontrolled mind is your worst enemy — the mastered mind is your greatest friend

Chapter 6 is the Gita's meditation manual. Krishna gives specific instructions: sit with the spine erect, gaze at the tip of the nose, withdraw the senses, fix the mind on the Self. Arjuna protests: 'The mind is more difficult to control than the wind.' Krishna agrees — but insists it can be done through practice (abhyasa) and non-attachment (vairagya). He also addresses what happens to someone who fails on the path — they are reborn in a family of yogis and continue from where they left off. No sincere spiritual effort is ever wasted.

A 60-second practice

Sit straight. For 60 seconds, every time the mind wanders, gently bring it back without frustration. Krishna says this return — again and again — IS the practice. Not the stillness, but the returning.

Best at dawn before the day's activity begins.
