Ganga
गङ्गा
The sacred river that flows from Shiva's matted hair — washing away all karma
The Ganga (Ganges) is India's most sacred river, personified as goddess Ganga who flows from Shiva's matted locks. She descends to Earth to purify the ashes of Bhagiratha's ancestors (hence also called Bhagirathi). Bathing in the Ganga, drinking her water, or having one's ashes immersed in her are considered acts of supreme spiritual merit. Varanasi on the Ganga is the most sacred city in Hinduism.

A 60-second practice
Drink a glass of water slowly and consciously today. Imagine it carrying away everything you want to release. This is Ganga's purifying gift.
Best at sunrise — the Ganga Aarti at Varanasi at dawn is one of India's most sacred moments.
