Shiva

शिव
The destroyer-transformer who dances the cosmos into being and dissolution

Shiva is one of the principal deities of Hinduism, the god of destruction and transformation. He is both ascetic and householder, destroyer and regenerator. As Nataraja he dances the Tandava, the cosmic dance that destroys and recreates the universe. As Adiyogi he is the first yogi, who transmitted yoga to the Saptarishis. His symbols include the crescent moon, the Ganga river flowing from his matted hair, a third eye, the trident, and the snake Vasuki.

A 60-second practice

Sit straight. Inhale deeply for 4 counts, hold for 4, exhale for 8. As you exhale, mentally release one thing you are holding on to. Shiva dissolves what no longer serves.

Best at midnight — Shiva's hour when stillness is complete.
