Guan Yin
अवलोकितेश्वर
The bodhisattva of infinite compassion who hears the cries of the world
Guan Yin is the East Asian form of the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara — originally depicted as male in Indian Buddhism, she became female in Chinese Buddhism, embodying the soft, maternal face of compassion. She hears (guan) the sounds (yin) of the world's suffering and responds. In Tibet she is Chenrezig, the patron Bodhisattva of Tibet whose human manifestation is the Dalai Lama. She holds a willow branch and a vase of pure water, symbols of healing.

A 60-second practice
Think of someone you find difficult to love. Send them one genuine breath of compassion — not approval of their actions, just warmth for their suffering. That is Guan Yin's practice.
Best at any moment of conflict or difficulty.
