Agni

अग्नि
The sacred fire that carries prayers from earth to heaven — the first word of the Vedas

Agni is the god of fire and the very first word of the Rigveda: 'Agnim ile purohitam' — 'I invoke Agni the priest.' He is the divine intermediary who carries offerings from humans to the gods through the sacred fire. Every yagna (fire ritual) is performed through Agni. He lives in the cooking fire, the cremation fire, the lightning bolt, and the sun. In Vedic cosmology, Agni is both the priest and the offering itself. Modern Hinduism still lights a sacred fire (havan) at every major ritual.

A 60-second practice

Light a candle or incense today. Watch the flame for 60 seconds — not thinking about it, just watching. Agni's teaching is that the fire of awareness transforms everything it touches.

Dawn — the time of the morning fire ritual (Agnihotra).
