Saptarishis

सप्तर्षि
The seven primordial seers who received and transmitted the Vedas

The Saptarishis are the seven great sages of the Vedic tradition: Vasishtha, Vishwamitra, Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadwaja, Jamadagni, and Gautama (lists vary). They are identified with the seven stars of the Ursa Major (Big Dipper) constellation. They received the Vedas directly in deep meditation and transmitted them to humanity. Each is the progenitor of a gotra (clan lineage), and Brahmins today can trace their spiritual lineage back to one of the Saptarishis. In Jain tradition, the Saptarishis are equivalent to the founding sages.
