Vasishtha

वसिष्ठ
The royal priest of Rama's lineage and author of the Yoga Vasishtha

Vasishtha is one of the greatest rishis in Hindu tradition. He was the royal priest (rajaguru) of the Ikshvaku dynasty, including Rama. The rivalry between Vasishtha and Vishwamitra — the brahmin sage and the warrior-turned-sage — is one of the great ongoing stories in the Puranas. He authored the Yoga Vasishtha, a philosophical text on consciousness and liberation. The Vasishtha gotra is one of the most widespread Brahmin lineages in India.
