Holi

होली
The spring festival of colours celebrating love, play, and the end of winter

Holi is the Hindu spring festival celebrated on the full moon of Phalguna. The night before, Holika Dahan (bonfire) is lit to celebrate the burning of the demoness Holika and the survival of the devotee Prahlada. The next day, Holi itself, is a day of coloured powders, water, singing, and dancing. In Braj (Vrindavan/Mathura) Holi lasts days and celebrates Krishna and Radha's playful colour games. It is a day when all social barriers dissolve — everyone throws colour at everyone.

Do something completely playful today — something that serves no productive purpose. Throw yourself into it without justification. That is Holi.

The main Holi celebration is in the morning of the full moon day.
