Mahatma Gandhi

The father of the nation who weaponised ahimsa to defeat an empire

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (1869–1948) applied Jain and Hindu principles of ahimsa (non-violence) and satyagraha (truth-force) to lead India to independence from British rule. He is called Mahatma ('Great Soul'). His philosophy influenced civil rights movements worldwide, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Nelson Mandela.
