Baisakhi

ਵਿਸਾਖੀ
The day the Khalsa was born — and the harvest festival of Punjab

Baisakhi (Vaisakhi) on April 13/14 is both the Punjabi harvest festival and the most significant date in Sikh history — the day Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa in 1699 at Anandpur Sahib. He asked for five men willing to die for faith; the five who stepped forward became the Panj Pyaare. Baisakhi is celebrated with fairs, Bhangra dance, processions, and renewal of Amrit initiation. It is also the day Jallianwala Bagh massacre occurred in 1919 — a day of both joy and remembered sacrifice.
