Jnana Yoga

ज्ञान योग
Investigate reality until the illusion of the separate self dissolves

Jnana Yoga is the path of wisdom and self-inquiry. The practitioner repeatedly asks: 'Who am I? What is real? What is permanent?' Through rigorous investigation, the meditator discovers that the individual self (Atman) is identical to the universal consciousness (Brahman). This is the path of Shankaracharya and Ramana Maharshi. It requires a sharp, disciplined intellect — which is why the Gita describes it as the most difficult path but also the most direct.

A 60-second practice

Right now, ask: 'Who is aware of my thoughts?' Don't answer in words. Stay with the question as pure attention for 60 seconds. You are looking for the witness — the awareness behind the mind. That investigation is Jnana Yoga.

Best at dawn — the hour of clear, still awareness.
