Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji

ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ
The gentle Guru of compassion who ran hospitals and cared for all creatures

Guru Har Rai Sahib Ji (1630–1661) was the seventh Sikh Guru, grandson of Guru Hargobind. He was known for his gentle nature and his love for all living creatures. He maintained a large zoo and botanical garden, ran hospitals dispensing free Ayurvedic medicine, and once slowed his walk so his flowing robes would not crush flowers. He is associated with the healing of Prince Dara Shikoh (Mughal crown prince) with a rare herb from his garden.
