Kurukshetra

कुरुक्षेत्र
The sacred battlefield where the greatest war and the greatest wisdom both happened

Kurukshetra is the plain in present-day Haryana, India, where the 18-day Mahabharata war was fought between the Pandavas and the Kauravas. The Bhagavad Gita is set entirely on this battlefield, between the two armies. Kurukshetra is called Dharmakshetra — the field of dharma — because it is where the question of right action was definitively asked and answered. The archaeological site at Kurukshetra is still a major pilgrimage destination. The battlefield is also the inner battlefield of every human being.
