Palitana
पालीताणा
The Jain holy mountain with 900 temples — a city built only for the gods
Palitana in Gujarat, India, is considered the holiest of all Jain pilgrimage sites. The Shatrunjaya Hill bears over 900 Jain temples built over 900 years — a city of marble temples where no human may spend the night (priests descend before sunset). The climb of 3,800 steps is itself a form of meditation and penance. It is associated with Adinatha (Rishabhadeva), the first Tirthankara. In 2014 Palitana became the world's first city to legally ban the slaughter of animals.

Walk up a flight of stairs today with full consciousness — each step deliberate, each breath counted. The Palitana pilgrimage transforms physical effort into spiritual ascent.
The pilgrimage to Palitana begins before dawn so pilgrims reach the summit at sunrise.
