Paryushana
पर्युषण
The most sacred Jain festival — eight or ten days of fasting, reflection, and seeking forgiveness
Paryushana is the holiest period in the Jain calendar, lasting 8 days for Shvetambara Jains and 10 days (Das Lakshana) for Digambara Jains. It is a time of intense spiritual focus — fasting, meditation, repentance, study, and the recitation of the Kalpa Sutra (the life of Mahavira). It culminates in Samvatsari — the day of universal forgiveness, when Jains ask forgiveness of every being with the phrase 'Michhami Dukkadam' ('May all my wrongdoings be forgiven'). It is perhaps the most beautiful custom in any tradition.

A 60-second practice
Say to yourself: 'Michhami Dukkadam' — 'May all my wrongdoings be forgiven. And I forgive all who have wronged me.' Mean it completely, for one minute.
The full Paryushana period; Samvatsari is on the final day.
