Prakriti — Nature

प्रकृति
All of material existence — every atom, every thought, every emotion — is Prakriti

Prakriti is the foundational concept of Sankhya philosophy and the Bhagavad Gita — the entire material world, including the mind, senses, and ego. Everything that can be observed, measured, or experienced is Prakriti. The three gunas (Sattva, Rajas, Tamas) are the three constituent qualities of Prakriti. Purusha (pure consciousness) is the witness of Prakriti but not part of it. Liberation in Sankhya philosophy means the Purusha recognising it was never actually entangled in Prakriti — like a cinema screen that shows films but is never burned by the fire on screen.

A 60-second practice

Right now, observe your breath (Prakriti). Now ask: who is watching the breath? That observer — the pure awareness that sees but is not the breath — is Purusha. One minute of distinguishing the seer from the seen.

Best in morning meditation.
