Guru Arjan Dev Ji

ਗੁਰੂ ਅਰਜਨ
The fifth Guru who compiled the Adi Granth and became Sikhism's first martyr

Guru Arjan Dev Ji (1563–1606) was the fifth Sikh Guru and the first Sikh martyr. He completed the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib) and compiled the Adi Granth — the first authoritative Sikh scripture, incorporating hymns from Sikh Gurus and Hindu and Muslim saints alike. He was tortured and executed by Mughal Emperor Jahangir for refusing to alter the Adi Granth. His martyrdom on a burning plate of sand, reciting Waheguru, is a foundational moment in Sikh history.

Think of a principle you would not compromise even under pressure. Sit with that conviction for one minute. That steadfastness is Guru Arjan's gift.
