Guru Nanak Jayanti
ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਯੰਤੀ
The birthday of Guru Nanak — celebrated with kirtan, langar, and processions of light
Guru Nanak Jayanti (Gurpurab) celebrates the birth of Guru Nanak on the full moon of Kartik. Celebrations begin two days before with Akhand Path — the continuous, 48-hour reading of the Guru Granth Sahib Ji. On the day itself, a Nagar Kirtan (procession) is led through the streets with the Guru Granth Sahib Ji on a palanquin, preceded by five armed Panj Pyaare and accompanied by singing, kirtan, and langar. It is a joyous, community-wide celebration of love and equality.

A 60-second practice
Sing or hum any melody you know — alone or with someone. The Gurpurab is above all a festival of kirtan (sacred music). Let one minute of music be your offering.
Celebrated through the night and into the morning.
