Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji
ਗੁਰੂ ਤੇਗ਼ ਬਹਾਦਰ
The Guru who gave his life to protect the religious freedom of Hindus
Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji (1621–1675) was the ninth Sikh Guru. When Kashmiri Pandits came to him desperate because Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was forcing Hindus to convert to Islam, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji offered himself as a shield. He was arrested and brought to Delhi where he was given a choice: convert or die. He refused, and was publicly beheaded at Chandni Chowk on 24 November 1675. He is called 'Hind Ki Chadar' — the Shield of India — for protecting another religion's freedom at the cost of his own life.

A 60-second practice
Consider: would you stand up for someone else's right to be different from you? Guru Tegh Bahadur's sacrifice was for people of another faith entirely.
