वेसाक
The full moon day celebrating the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha
Vesak (Visakha Puja) is the most important Buddhist festival, celebrated on the full moon of May. It commemorates all three key events in the Buddha's life: his birth in Lumbini, his enlightenment at Bodh Gaya, and his Parinirvana at Kushinagar — all said to have occurred on the same full moon day. It is observed by Buddhists worldwide with prayers, meditation, the releasing of caged birds, and acts of generosity. The United Nations has recognised Vesak as an international day of observance.

A 60-second practice
Release something today that you have been holding captive — a resentment, a rigid opinion, a judgment of another. Vesak's ritual of releasing birds is a metaphor for freeing the mind.
Celebrated on the full moon evening with candlelit processions.
