गौतम बुद्ध
The prince who became the awakened teacher of the middle way
Siddhartha Gautama (c. 563–483 BCE) was born a prince of the Shakya clan in Lumbini (present-day Nepal). At 29 he left his palace to seek the end of suffering. After years of extreme asceticism, he adopted the Middle Way — between indulgence and deprivation — and attained enlightenment (bodhi) under a pipal tree at Bodh Gaya. He spent 45 years teaching, giving his first sermon at Sarnath (the Deer Park). He passed into Mahaparinirvana at Kushinagar at age 80.

A 60-second practice
Sit for one minute and observe your breath without controlling it. Each time the mind wanders, gently return — no frustration. That return is the practice itself.
Best at dawn — the hour of the Buddha's enlightenment.
